What We Believe
The Trinity
We believe in the Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The Father
We believe in God, the Father, the Almighty, the Author and Creator of all things.
The Son
We believe that Jesus Christ was, and is the Son of God, co-equal in wisdom, power and holiness with the Father, and that through His atonement the world is saved from sin and reconciled to God.
The Holy Ghost
We believe in the personality of the Holy Ghost. That He proceedeth from the Father and the Son, and that He is co-equal in power with the Father and the Son.
Fallen Nature
We believe that man, by nature, is sinful and unholy. Being born in sin, he needs to be born again, sanctified and cleansed from all sins by the blood of Jesus. We believe that man is saved by confessing and forsaking his sins, and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, and that having become a child of God, by being born again, he is adopted into the family of God.
The Sabbath
The Christian community would have us to understand that, the Sabbath Day observance has changed from the seventh day of the week to the first. This position is unbiblical. God said "Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8). This Commandment from God has not changed.
God created the Sabbath for rest and reflection. Therefore, it is the position of this body of believers to observe the Sabbath in the way God intended, offering holy thoughts of praise. Jesus' death on the cross was the fulfilling of the Law and not the changing thereof. We are no longer judged by the Law, but by Grace. The Law is still used to show us the error of our ways. As one writer so neatly stated "The Law drives us to the cross."
Salvation
We believe that salvation comes when a person believes the truth of the Gospel. Salvation denotes delieverance from sin through faith in Christ by the power of God.
Repentance
We believe repentance is taken for that saving grace wrought in the soul by the Spirit of God, whereby a sinner is made to be sensible of his sins. His repentance arises from love to God, accompanied with hatred of sin.
Regeneration
We believe regeneration is the process or work of the Spirit, whereby a person is changed from nature to grace, from a carnal to a spiritual mind, from darkness to light and translated into the kingdom of Christ. It is the change and renovation of the soul by the Spirit and graces of God.
Justification
We believe that justification is that state that a sinner is brought by divine grace, wherein he is made judicially acceptable before God.
Sanctification
We believe sanctification is purification such as is derived from being separated from worldliness and dedicated to divinely sacred purposes.
Scriptures
We believe the Holy Scriptures contain all things necessary to salvation and is a complete and infallible guide and standard of authority in all matters of religion and morals: therefore, whatever is commanded is to be obeyed, and renounced as both wrong and sinful; and whatever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man as necessary to salvation (II Timothy 3:16-17).
Missions
We believe every Christian should in every legitimate way, at all times, everywhere, according to his/her ability, ought to seek to spread knowledge of Jesus and the way of salvation.
Church Doctrine & Mission
The purpose of this church shall be the advancement on earth of the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It shall seek to attain this end through public worship, preaching of the Gospel, consistent Christian living by its members, personal evangelism, missionary and Christian endeavors, bible reading and study, daily prayer, financial support and service.
This church is obligated to be enlisted in, trained in, and consecrated to the service of the Lord.
Holy Mount Calvary accepts the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired record of God's revelatory actions in human history and as the authoritative basis for its doctrine and practice. The Holy Bible is and shall be the first and final word for teaching and preaching the gospel, for Christian faith and practice and for Christian rule and discipline in this church.
Holy Mount Calvary supports the basic doctrines held by the Baptist Denomination (See What We Believe). This church also maintains affliation and cooperation with the Southern and National Baptist Convention of America.
Church Covenant
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge an holiness; to give it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every organization of human origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of opinion in the church, we strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion, to study diligently the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employment, and faithful in the service we promise others; endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.
We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every good word and work; to guard each other's reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other's joys, and with tender sympathy bear one another's burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Saviour in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
Church Ordinances
I. WATER BAPTISM
Water baptism symbolizes the burying of souls in the liquid grave, like as Christ rose from the dead, they, also being buried with him in baptism, shall rise to walk in the newness of life. The only Son of our Lord hath said, that it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness and that except a man be born of the water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved..." (Matt. 3:16, John 3:5, Mark 16:15-16).
II. THE LORD'S SUPPER
The Lord's Supper (also called Communion) was instituted by Christ during the Passover Meal shortly before His death (Matt. 26:26-27, Luke 22:19-20). It is a memorial feast by which we show forth Christ's suffering and death (I Cor. 11:23-30). The Lord's Supper is an ordinance of proclamation. "Ye do shew" or "preach", "the Lord's death", each time you observe the Lord's Supper. Not only does the church preach Calvary, by observing the Lord's Supper, but at the same time preaches the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, for His church.
